Our story
From the Festival of Light to FamilyVoice Australia
Our movement was born in Adelaide in 1973 as the Australian Festival of Light — a gathering of Christians who wanted to bring hope, decency and a clear moral vision to national life. The image of light has stayed with us ever since.
Over the decades that work matured into a steady, year-round ministry of research, comment and engagement. On 1 July 2008 the organisation was renamed FamilyVoice Australia, a name that captures both who we serve and how we serve them: lending a considered voice to the concerns of families and the convictions of faith.

Half a century on, the heart of the work is unchanged. We seek to honour God and to commend God's wise and generous ways for a healthy society, where marriage is honoured, human life is respected, families flourish, and fundamental freedoms are enjoyed by all.

We partner with local congregations, resourcing Christians to understand the issues and to participate well as citizens.

We make our case calmly and charitably, seeking the good of those who disagree with us as much as those who agree.
What we do
Conviction in practice
Day to day, our ministry takes a few practical forms:
- Research and briefings — clear, accessible material on the issues facing families and faith.
- Submissions to government — considered responses to parliamentary inquiries and public consultations.
- Speaking and equipping — visiting churches, conferences and member gatherings around the country.
- Election-time surveys — inviting candidates to set out their positions so voters can choose well.
- Member action — helping supporters write, meet and speak to their representatives.
How we are funded
Sustained by supporters
FamilyVoice Australia is a supporter- and member-funded Christian charity. We are not the project of any single donor or political party. Instead, our work is carried by the prayers and generosity of ordinary Australians who share our convictions.
That independence matters. It means we can speak freely and serve the church without fear or favour. Every gift, large or small, keeps a steady Christian voice in the public square.
